Employability day at Newham VIth form College
At Newham VIth form college (the NewVic) at Easter 2007 we ran an “Employability day”, on behalf of the sponsor, The Windsor Fellowship.
Four businesses, Marks and Spencer, EDF Energy, Volo TV and London Met University, participated to give the students insights on what employers look for in applicants, and how to focus their long term career options in an Open forum, followed by smaller seminars. The 90 A level and B Tec Students then participated in an energetic hands-on Hi-Speed Enterprise Challenge. From this 30 students were selected to join an Easter Vacation Business Challenge week.
All the students were studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects, and all the business executives we engaged with had a STEM focus, a key driver for the Windsor Fellowship, with support also coming from the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council (East London).
