EiA: Recruiting unemployed people with no CV's with Aon


Key outcomes: 

  • 100% of the candidates now have an increased understanding of business and enterprise. 
  • 99% of the candidates have increased their skills to help their learning and increased their future employment chances. 
  • 73% out of the successful candidates were living in a deprived Croydon Ward. 
  • 53% of the successful candidates were claiming Jobseeker Allowance for more than 6 months 
  • 47% of the successful candidates were claiming Jobseeker Allowance for around 3-6 months 

Entrepreneurs in Action (EiA) recently partnered with Aon- Hewitt to deliver their Classroom to Boardroom programme. EiA were commissioned by the CEO of Aon Hewitt to deliver the first ever CV-less recruitment process. The aim of the programme was to help Aon with their recruitment process, as well as developing the skills of the candidates to ensure they would be successful in employment. It was also an opportunity for the candidates to show their capabilities to the company.


The programme challenge was set by Aon themselves to see how effective candidates viewed their current communication strategy and suggest improvements, with particular attention paid to how Aon could better engage with young people to use their services.


The Classroom to Boardroom programme is designed to give candidates the right skills, attitude and understanding of the business, so they can start work right away. It also equips unsuccessful candidates with the desired skills and attitudes to prepare them for work elsewhere in the future.

This programme goes beyond the traditional recruitment methods of CVs and interviews, and allowed both the EiA and Aon staff to assess candidates based on their performance and ability to complete a challenge set by the company themselves.


Candidates felt this method was better than traditional methods of recruitment, but that they also gained personally from it.

  • 96% improved their taking responsibilty skills 
  • 92% improved their presenting to others skills 

Aon themselves were so impressed with the candidates, that instead of offering jobs to 10 candidates (the original figure agreed) they offered jobs to 15!
