The Underground has 270 stations and about 400 km (250 miles) of track, making it the longest metro system in the world by route length. It also has one of the highest number of stations. In 2007, more than one billion passenger journeys were recorded, making it the third busiest metro system in Europe after Moscow and Paris. London underground have helped us give young people a taste of the business challenges they face in managing such a complex network.
We have organised two core projects for London Underground.
The first was The London Underground Olympic Challenge working with the London Olympic Team and head of skills to conduct a classroom to board room programme. Young people worked on a transport challenge which focused on the challenges that London Underground face with increased passenger usage during the Olympic games.
The second project involved the first adult demand led apprenticeship where EIA have provided motivational and employability support for medium and long term unemployed. The young people taking part returned to work as a customer service assistants with London underground.
