Christine Chapman, the Principal at Castle Community College, talks to our CEO Derek Browne about her colleges' experience of the A Future Built on Sport project. The project involved students taking part in a week long residential programme where they utilised enterprise skills to build upon their sporting talent.
Ms. Chapman discusses the projects contribution to the colleges' achievemnet of the Governments National Challenge Target to increase the number of secondary school children achieveing 5+ higher grade GCSEs including Maths and English by 2011. Upon completion of the residential week all teachers reported noticeable improvement in the pupils' attitude towards staff, peers and work. Pupils came back from the project more motivated, more focussed, and clearer on their goals in life. Indeed, as Christine points out, this reulted in "100% attendance at examinations and 100% effort".
