Simon Smith, Director of Sport at Castle Community College, discusses his colleges' participation in our A Future Built On Sport programme. The programme involved students taking part in a week long residential programme where they utilised enterprise skills to build upon their sporting talent. Mr. Smith comments on the programmes role in helping the college achieve the Governments' National Challenge Target.
Pupils returned from the programme more motivated and determined to achieve their desired career goals. They learnt through the programme the skills required to succeed at school and those needed to secure future employment.
As a result of the programme the college has witnessed an increase in the numbers of pupils applying to sixth form, and improved student bahaviour. Furthermore, they predict to see an improvement in the number of pupil's achieving 5+ higher GCSE's in this years examinations.
